Body Hair Tansplantation (BHT)

Body hair transplantation (BHT) is the latest in the specialty of hair transplantation. It was pioneered by Dr. Ray Woods from Australia in the 1990's and has gained popularity in the 21st century. This new technique is being presented as an option especially for patients who have limited scalp donor sites or to provide density after scalp hair transplantation. Sites that can be harvested for hair follicles are the abdomen, armpits/axillary area, chest, back, beard, forearms, legs/thighs, and pubis. Body hair transplant also offers the removal of unwanted hair and placing them into an area where they are most needed.

The AHRC does not recommend BHT as primary treatment for baldness such as androgenic alopecia but can offer it as supplemental resource to add density in patients with limited or exhausted donor supply or in repair cases to transplant donor scars.
