Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an emerging treatment in dermatology recently proposed for skin rejuvenation.

Skin aging is characterized by cellular changes and alterations in dermal extracellular matrix proteins with degeneration of connective tissue caused by intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Platelet-rich plasma may play an important role in skin rejuvenation acting on fibroblast activation, synthesis of collagen, and other matrix component.(Camels et al Dermatologic Surgery: June 2017 - Volume 43 - Issue 6 - p 826–835)

In addition PRP, has emerged as a new treatment modality in hair loss problems . Preliminary evidence has suggested that it might have a beneficial role in hair growth in Androgenic Alopecia and Alopecia Areata.

Platelet-rich plasma ( PRP) is an innovative treatment gaining interest in hair restoration specialist. Most of the scientific evidence provided or published point to tissue regenerative effect of PRP. It contains and releases through degranulation, several different growth factors and other cytokines that stimulate healing of bone and soft tissue.

The usage of Platelet Rich plasma by many physician hair restoration surgeons , has led to the observation of enhanced hair growth after transplantation,or to some, improvement of hair growth after injection into the scalp .However ,no randomised clinical trials have been performed so far in the field of hair transplantation to demonstrate the actual effectiveness of PRP in association with hair transplantation and the observations on hair growth also vary in different reports.
